  • Essay / Technology is ruining society - 785

When you think of murder, drugs, and nudity, I'm pretty sure few people think of positive ideas. Electronic devices, like televisions and computers, regularly display this sort of thing. Despite this explicit content, some people see the constant improvement of technology as a wonderful addition to our lives. However, as time goes by, more and more people are beginning to have doubts about the consequences of these technological developments. Children and adolescents should play and use their imagination; instead, they spend countless hours on various electronic devices ranging from tablets and computers to phones and televisions. These inventions often feature explicit and inappropriate material that corrupts children and slowly ruins society's social skills. Various electronic devices are frequently used to access unnecessary websites, such as Twitter and Facebook, which ruin the social capabilities of the society. More and more people are using social networks on the Internet as a source of communication. This not only applies to children and adolescents, but also to adults. Using these types of websites as a means of communication leads to a decline in the social skills of many people. A multitude of children and adolescents prefer to stay indoors and interact with their friends via the Internet rather than going out with them. Before technology, people weren't afraid to walk up to a random person and talk to them. Today, many friendships are formed through the Internet and these friendships are not authentic. When these “friends” meet in person, they find nothing to say. For example, I remember after watching Perks of Being a Wallflower, a movie set in the early 90s, my friends and I discussed how all the characters communicated in person and while dating, they were playing games and talking. Now...... middle of paper ... but the personal relationships they might form at home or at work are ruined because of the excess hours individuals spend with their electronic devices. Computers, televisions and various other electronic devices not only hold the capacity to destroy humanity, but have already begun to extinguish it. Because of these inventions, people of all ages are negatively affected. Society's social and moral skills have declined significantly since the rise of technology. Some people don't see the downside of these sources of entertainment; all they see are the benefits and don't want to change the extent to which these inventions are used. But what will happen when the world reaches a point in time where humans can no longer function normally without these sources of entertainment due to their dependence on them? Doesn't this seem like something the world should be worried about?
