    Marshall uses many historical events involving African American culture and conveys his message about blackness and what it means to be African American through his artistic work. Ah Xian uses the traditions of her culture and heritage to express her origins and how strongly these are integrated into her identity. However, these two artists differ in their ideas about cultural identity. Ah Xian believes that your culture does not change just because times or place have changed. Marshall has a different point of view, he believes that a person's culture will change depending on the place and events they experience. I agree with Marshall that our cultural identity can change due to the influences around us. We are constantly influenced by politics, current events, current affairs, media and changes in society; Art in general and art forms such as popular culture and new media are constantly evolving and inspiring people who connect with them and influence us every day. Allowing us to identify with Art and experience it in a new light
