  • Essay / Lord Capulet in Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare

Lord Capulet in Romeo and Juliet by William ShakespeareThe play Romeo and Juliet takes place in a wealthy suburb of the city of Verona in Italy. Romeo and Juliet is a play about love and passion between two young people. It is also about the fate of the two "star-crossed lovers", who end up committing suicide due to misunderstandings. We could say that Romeo and Juliet were too unlucky and the play leaves us thinking "if only..." If only the messenger had delivered the letter, if only Juliet had woken up earlier... there are so many unfortunate coincidences in the play .In this play there is an unnecessary quarrel as there is no mention of what it is about, the only mention of a reason in the play is the prologue when he says "Two households both similar in dignity…….From the old grudge to the new mutiny''.There is a feeling at the beginning of the play when the Prince arrives and wants the violence to stop The first time we see Lord Capulet. , is when he tries to get involved in a fight between Sampson, Gregory Benvolio and Tybalt his first word shows that he is impetuous because he says "...give me my long sword, ho! "This shows that he is not thinking about his age, he is just thinking about fighting and trying to save face in front of the citizens of Verona. He is not only doing this to save face, but also because of the quarrel which manifests itself when he says: “My sword, I say! Old Montague has arrived... explodes his blade in spite of me. This first observation of Lord Capulet is not favorable because he is just showing his impetuosity instead of leaving everything to the young people because of his age. The next time we see Lord Capulet in the play is when he is talking to Paris about Paris wanting to marry Juliet, here we see a calmer Lord Capulet showing his fatherly protective side because he tells Paris ''she didn't seeing the change of fourteen years……let two more summers fade in their pride”, this shows us that he is now acting older and wiser as he should have acted from the beginning.
