    I believe that a lot of attention was paid to Peter the Great because of his extensive reforms. Peter brought social and economic changes to his country. He wanted to make Russia grow. Peter transformed culture; he wanted his people to wear Western European fashion. Many people were not enthusiastic about change because they did not like the lifestyles of Western European societies. He strengthened his navy, he reformed his army to meet Western standards, and he took control of the Church. Peter the Great was primarily described as a powerful and violent man. In some accounts he has been described very differently. Bishop Burnet wrote from his experience with Pierre, because he had been in his company. He experienced both the violent and non-violent side of Peter. He also said that Peter was a very intelligent man even though he didn't show it much.
