  • Essay / The habitability of planets in the universe - 2190

Are we alone in the universe? Is there something or someone there? These are age-old questions, asked by people of all ages and races. But the first question we need to ask ourselves is: is this really possible? Are there other habitable planets? What does a planet need to be habitable? Without a habitable planet, life cannot persist in the universe, the search for life in the universe has been long and difficult with no results proving the existence of life outside of Earth. The most predominant researchers are those at the SETI Institute or Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence Institute, a privately funded organization that uses various methods to search for electromagnetic transmissions, the supposed method of contact, from distant planets. With information about the habitability of planets and possibly their locations in space, SETI would benefit greatly; they are now challenged to search for transmissions without any knowledge of direction, spectrum, or method of use (SETI). If the possible directions were known, one less hypothesis would have to be made and we could take one step closer to discovering life in the universe. Finding a habitable planet and life in the universe is more than searching for life, it's searching for a planet in the universe. a solar system in the universe capable of sustaining life. It must be in a habitable zone of the solar system and have all the habitable planetary necessities on the planet. It must be in an area where its lifespan will be long enough for life to evolve. It must be inhabited by organisms capable of evolving. Livable can mean many things. A habitable planet could support some forms of life, but not others.
