  • Essay / USING MEDIA AS A TEACHING TOOL IN ELT UNDER...

The present researcher's experiences in the classroom related to media using print media while teaching English at undergraduate level and the enthusiastic response students were the source of inspiration for this article. Here is an effort to bring an unplanned language teaching experience into a well-planned, curriculum-driven, and academically productive whole. It was observed that most of the students in the test class improved their comprehension skills as well as their vocabulary after reading newspapers, magazines. , journals, articles and other printed materials provided by the teacher. The students responded enthusiastically to the transistor carried by the teacher and the occasional trips to the television room. It was heartening to see that everyone, regardless of their language of instruction, showed enormous interest in listening and watching the programs. It was observed that students who had the opportunity to listen to news on radio and television showed an increased awareness of the influence of mother tongue (MTI) in their spoken English. It was also noticed that there was a deep sense of joy and fulfillment among the students because they had the opportunity to learn English without being aware of grammar rules. Everyone had fun learning from these sources and happily shared how they used media to learn English. It is therefore not surprising that many teachers feel strongly about the role of media in an educational setting. Several teachers believe that the written press will also help develop students' reading and writing skills by supplementing school textbooks with realia. Many language experts claim that introducing the material in the middle of a sheet of paper can become a motivating force to push the learner toward the target language.REFERENCES1.
