My mother and aunt started a company called Art d'China years ago before I was born. They import porcelain, crystal, stainless steel and glass tableware from China to Peru, mainly for hotels and fine restaurants. I grew up listening to their conversations with my uncle, who has run his business for 20 years, about the state of the Peruvian economy, possible profits, and whether or not a given restaurant would be a suitable customer for his product. They took into consideration factors such as the quality and type of food served at exclusive Peruvian restaurants to determine which types of plates to import. I was fascinated to listen to their different business strategies; Although I don't plan to be part of their company, I would like to take advantage of Peru's current booming economy. I plan to start my own business or work in a growing industry that is looking to establish itself more firmly in the Peruvian market. I plan to get my BS in economics.
