  • Essay / Biofuels - 1216

In recent years, environmental issues, particularly the use of fossil fuels, have become one of the most debated issues. It is well known that fossil fuels are non-renewable resources and their use harms the environment, such as the process of burning fossil fuels which leads to global warming. However, current societies remain dependent on fossil fuels. Due to environmental concerns and in order to reduce the widespread consumption of fossil fuels, research supports that agricultural fuels or biofuels are an alternative to replace fossil fuels and use them as a new energy source. In general, biofuels are fuels that are mainly produced from biorenewable or renewable feedstocks, such as corn, sugarcane, wheat, etc. There are many types of biofuels and each country develops different types. For example, Brazil produces biofuels from sugar cane. Global development of biofuels is necessary; however, the efficiency and sustainability of biofuels compared to fossil fuels must be examined. This essay argues that the use of biofuels worldwide is not a viable alternative to fossil fuels as it faces difficulties and leads to disadvantages in the future. The arguments against biofuels that will be evaluated relate to social structure, economic development and cost of production, as well as arguments regarding agriculture and the environment. First, an important issue to consider is the use of biofuels. the fuels and problems posed in the social structure. Because biofuels are beneficial to the environment, biofuel production and the fuel market will grow rapidly; therefore, resource availability is an important factor....... middle of paper ...... and nitrous oxide in the atmosphere, which are associated with greenhouse gases and have three hundred times more effect on global warming (Cockerill & Martin, 2008; Murphy, 2009). In conclusion, the development of biofuels as a viable alternative to replace fossil fuels is still not promising. Although biofuels are made from renewable resources, they are not efficient enough due to the disadvantages that will arise from it, such as diminishing food, production costs and environmental disadvantages. Considering the difficulties and disadvantages that arise from the widespread use of biofuels, biofuel management and policies are necessary as solutions to obtain a well-managed agricultural supply so that it has sustainable production; similarly, large-scale production of biofuels should be postponed until adequate solutions are found..
