  • Essay / A rose for Emily - 1454

When I was very little, I remember my father taking care of me. He would never let me run around the house when the glass might break and hurt me. As I grew older, my father began to give me more freedom but also gave me more responsibilities; like he wants me to do the household chores, not all but some. I knew it wasn't my job to do them, but I helped anyway. When I went off to college and had to do it on my own, I realized that my dad was good about making me do my laundry, chores, etc., when I was young. Plus I knew I had to do my chores so I could go out with friends. Even though I had these kinds of responsibilities from a very young age, I can say that it helped me in life. But because some parents overprotect their children and don't expose them to real life, children may not know how to function in society when their parents die. In the story “A Rose For Emily” by William Faulkner. Mr. Grierson, Emily's father seems to control everything that happens around Emily. He was a dominant figure for her. As the narrator told us the story, I noticed in a few lines the things her father did to keep her at home. Actions like he's scaring away guys interested in Emily. He did this because he wanted her to stay home and take care of the house. From my point of view, he would have more control over his actions and not let her leave the house. From my point of view, I think that people who don't go out as often as normal people might develop some sort of mental illness. because of the isolation. The narrator clearly pointed out that Mr. Grierson wanted to keep Emily for his household. "The enormous burden of Emily's psychological determinism [could... middle of paper ...... nition of her dignity as the last Grierson." These last two sentences refer to the fact that Miss Emily demanded respect and always be treated like a lady. She had fallen in love with Homer, she thought he was the man and thought she had disappeared. When he told her his secret, she felt stupid and humiliated; because she had planes for both, because she had risked her family name for that of a worker. Homer then paid the consequences. Emily's father had raised her with a lot of authority, he could have ruined her life by not giving her the opportunity to live a normal life as a woman; but he builds a personality, a character and a psychopathic woman. Mr. Grierson was responsible for Emily's behavior, he thought she always made others respect her. Homer's actions of using her as a cover for his sexuality were not at all respectful, Emily didn't know any better and poisoned him to death..
