    Since the 1980s, organizations have become increasingly aware of corporate social responsibility (CSR). The perception in today's business world is that profit maximization is one of the organizational objectives and that for a business to grow, other objectives must be achieved (Werther and Chandler 2010). One way is for the organization in question to adopt a corporate social responsibility program. Engaging in socially responsible efforts for an organization has proven to be crucial to sustainability and success. This involvement must reflect responsible market-oriented actions. These responsible behaviors of an organization towards the community are in other words the corporate social responsibility actions. In this regard, the community includes, but is not limited to, employees and, to some extent, shareholders and other members of society. Organizations approach CSR adoption in different ways and focus on different stakeholders depending on the market goal they wish to achieve or priority levels. This article will examine the advantages and disadvantages for organizations of employing socially responsible human resources practices, with a particular focus on American Apparel as an example.
