  • Essay / The Phoenix Art Museum - 763

Thanks to my art course I have a great opportunity to visit one of the greatest museums I have ever seen in my life, namely the Phoenix Art Museum located in downtown metropolitan Phoenix. The artwork that inspired me, and which I carefully studied for this assignment, was a very interesting artwork made by Jacopo Del Casentino who named this artwork Madonna and Child. For example, Jacopo Del Casentino painted this work in tempera on a poplar panel. According to scholars and historians, the painting was completed in 1335 in Italy. For example, the portrait is Jacopo Del Casentino's interpretation and vision of the Madonna and her child Jesus. It is very interesting to note that during the expected period (nearly 700 years), the piece is still in fairly good condition; However, there is a bad side to the condition of this artwork, where we can see the tempera peeling off in close proximity to the edge of the panel. A priori, the size of the portrait is quite large and focuses only on the two main subjects that the painting presents. As can be seen, the images are large and centered, allowing the two figures to become the focal point of the painting. In my opinion, we can find in this painting a little symmetry and a pattern that adds clarity to the view. When trying to describe the painting, we can notice Madonna in the painting who is dressed in a black hooded cape that covers her behind and surrounds her. her body, while revealing a light-colored garment underneath. For example, the underwear is a very light cream color, with gold trim on the collar and sleeves. On the other side, a small part of Madonna's hair is exposed and a large halo rests on her head. As I found interesting, the halo is...... middle of paper......, and in my eyes are very unrealistic. Looking at the faces of the Virgin and Child, we can notice unreal gestures that seem to show the sadness of the photographed models. The Madonna and Child and its details are clearly and visibly organized and are very attractive to the human eye inspecting it. As a 14th century artist, Jacopo del Casentino, in my opinion, did an excellent job of presenting his own vision of mother and child that is remarkable and clearly understandable to the viewer. It's like a 700-year-old message that 21st century viewers are able to decode and understand. I am very happy to have this great chance to learn something new as well as the opportunity to be in the museum in person and the opportunity to appreciate the art before my own eyes, it was a great experience that I would recommend to anyone looking for great entertainment. with culture.
