I have personally witnessed the generalizations people make about certain cultures. Being part of an Asian culture, I was often associated with the status of an “academic overachiever” or a “nerd lacking social and communication skills.” But in reality, I was often lazy about doing my homework and spent time with my friends quite often. I was often frustrated by generalizations made about me from my culture and realized that it was important that these generalizations not apply to everyone in a group. It may be true that our Asian culture performs better academically as a whole than other cultures, but I think it is important for everyone to realize that these generalizations do not define everyone in the culture.
