    Victims of Domestic ViolencePeople today need to recognize the importance of domestic violence. Many women are victims of physical violence, or even killed, every year. Women need to protect themselves more and stop returning to the abuser. Authorities and courts should be stricter towards men in order to prevent domestic violence against women; There are so many men in this country who get away with it because women are afraid to call for help and feel trapped. According to Ornelas, there are three main types of abuse: physical, emotional and verbal. Examples of physical violence are when the abuser slaps, kicks, chokes, and punches. Emotional abuse involves mind games, jealousy, isolation from friends and family, and making the victim feel worthless (Ornelas). Verbal abuse consists of constant yelling, scolding and threats. A woman in love will do whatever it takes to maintain a relationship with the person she loves, which makes it even harder for her to leave if abuse occurs. It is sometimes very difficult for a woman to recognize the violence she has suffered because she is so in love with her partner. It is very important to recognize patterns of abuse and domestic violence. All women should take signs of abuse very seriously. When women begin to see these signs of abuse, they should leave or call for help and not stay with the abuser. There are many places women can go for protection, such as shelters and many support groups. Educating women about cycles of domestic violence can reduce cases in the county. Support groups can also break the silence of a woman experiencing violence and she will be able to speak out in front of a group of other victims.
