  • Essay / Essay on Vincent Van Gogh - 951

On March 30, 1853, one of the brightest and most creative children was born in Zundert, Netherlands. This boy's life would be one of pain and struggle. His name was Vincent Van Gogh. During his early years, Vincent lived with his father, Theodorus Van Gogh, his mother, Anna Cornelia Carbentus, his two brothers, Theo and Cornelius, and his three sisters, Anna, Elisabeth and Willemina. One of his main problems was that he was born with mental instability for most of his life. But the problem that hurt him the most was that he was born exactly one year before the previous Vincent Willem was still born to his mother. This forced Vincent to live the rest of his life thinking he was a replacement child. The only thing that saved him from pain was art. Vincent attended a local school for his studies and a rectory for his religious education from 1861 to 1864. At school he was an average student, but his choice of clothing and eating habits made him appear strange to other students. He then transferred to a boarding school in Zevenbergen, where he studied English, German and French. He then transferred to a high school in Tilburg, but was forced to leave due to high costs. The school's art teacher, a well-respected man, never saw anything extraordinary in Vincent's artistic skills. After dropping out of high school, he went to The Hague to work for his uncle's art dealer, "Goupil & Cie". In June 1873, it was transferred to the Goupil Gallery in London. It was there that he met his first love. He fell in love with his landlady's daughter. Vincent was devastated when she rejected his proposal. His letters to his brother were full of sadness and confusion. The only times he seemed enlightened was when he was among papers, in the hospital, at night. People in his area signed a petition saying he had to leave because he was too dangerous. After being expelled, he sent 6 paintings including “The Starry Night”. Without housing, Dr. Paul Gachet welcomes him as one of his patients. He rents a room and receives many visits from his family. During one of his visits, Theo told Vincent that he needed to be stricter with his money. Vincent took this badly, thinking that Théo no longer wanted to sell his work. Later, Vincent went out to paint, but brought a gun with him. He shot himself twice in the chest, but it didn't kill him. He was rushed to hospital after being found in his room. Théo was called upon and they returned home, but Vincent died in his brother's arms. After all the pain and struggles, Vincent fought back and became one of the best painters in history..
