Internet RegulationTechnology is growing at an uncontrollable pace in today's world. Along with this, so is the Internet. Internet regulation is becoming a major issue all over the world. Some people do not believe it is possible to regulate the Internet and many believe it should not be regulated at all because it infringes on our free speech rights; while many believe that it will need to be regulated to protect people of all ages and backgrounds. There are three aspects of the Internet that need to be regulated: criminal activity, illegal content, and harmful/offensive content. These three elements appear in different ways on the Internet and are a major problem in today's world. These issues can and should be regulated so that the Internet is safe for the public. Crime is omnipresent in today's society. One of the scariest things is that you can become a victim of many different types of crimes when using your computer. Last year, a loss of $525,441,110.00 was reported (www.ic3.gov) due to Internet-related crimes. This is because people can access another person's personal information through the Internet. You can even commit crimes without even knowing about it by downloading illegal content. With activities like these happening every hour of the day; The Internet needs to be more restricted to help protect the public and industries affected by these types of crimes. Another major problem is the impersonation of legitimate websites to scam unsuspecting people. If there is nothing in place to monitor and shut down illegal websites that commit these crimes, they will only increase over time; becoming even more difficult to detect and could possibly ...... middle of paper ...... to be done before it's too late. The safety of people is too important for no regulatory system to be put in place. It remains to be seen whether this will be done or not.
