  • Essay / Building a Human Resources Department - 1345

Serving as a human resources manager for a rapidly growing organization in Southern California often proves to be both challenging and rewarding. The organization I happily work for, New American Funding (NAF), is one of the nation's leading mortgage bankers. Coming to this organization, I had spent some time working in HR management roles, but in all honesty, nothing could have prepared me for the role at NAF. When I was interviewed for the HR manager position, I was led to believe by a rather convincing recruiter that there were almost 200 employees and that the company was looking to double within a year or so. two. I was nervous about developing a role in an already large company where I would be leading the department. I had worked in large companies, but my role as an HR manager was limited to a company with only 100 employees. This was going to be a challenge and I was a little nervous. The human resources management role was not foreign to me. As the text describes, HRM encompasses “the policies, practices, and systems that influence employee behavior, attitudes, and performance” (page 3) (Noe, RA, Hollenbeck, JR, Gehat, B., and Wright , PM (2014). I felt very comfortable in the role of HR Manager at NAF and was interested in continuing the hiring process when we talked about the role and what it entailed. , I was informed that the role was ultimately new and that it would be up to me to develop the department, that at the moment the department was essentially working only on onboarding, as there was a lot of recruitment. I interviewed several people: the recruiter, the licensing manager, the compliance manager, the COO (who would be my boss) a...... middle of paper ...... the organization was. in a new industry and required me to gain a lot of knowledge, I felt it was imperative to do so. use an evidence-based HR approach to “collect and use data to show that human resources practices have a positive influence on the company's financial results or on key stakeholders” (page 14). Noe, R.A., Hollenbeck, J.R., Gehat, B., & Wright, P.M. (2014). It is very important to create a human resources department focused on strategic growth for a company that we truly believe in. NAF is a phenomenal organization with enormous growth potential. New American Funding is made up of a group of people working hard and collaboratively to build the most amazing mortgage bank in the country.
