    The passage from chapter 9 of the novel “Lord of the Flies” by William Golding has as its theme the journey of death which is represented through images and the use of vivid diction. The passage shows the events that happened after Simon's death and how the effect and description of the tone. The tone of serenity is described in the passage showing that after Simon's death, the mood and tone finds itself in a state of calm, peace and tranquility in the air. Simon's death is one of the greatest misfortunes of William Golding's "Lord of the Flies," both because of who he is and how he dies. Simon is the most sensitive character and represents the best part of human nature. He is the only boy who recognizes the true beast of the island, namely them. When he frees the parachutist, the beast of the air, he shows a consideration that is not given to him. In these final paragraphs, it seems that Golding is mourning the loss of civilized behavior. Golding uses images of nature to describe how Simon related to the natural world. After Simon's death, a sense of serenity pervades the beach and even the sea seems to become less rough as "the rain ceased and the clouds moved away" (p. 153). Although Simon's death was sad, heartbreaking, and unfortunate, Golding tells us of these "fiery-eyed creatures" (p. 154) who surround Simon's body and transform it into a beautiful figure of "carved marble" (p. 154). “Everything was covered with a layer of silver” (p. 154). , which softened the enormity of Simon's death. Golding uses bright colors and descriptions such as "phosphorescence" (p. 153) which implies that although Simon is dead, he is figuratively "brought back to life" by the nature around him. the images created by the middle of the paper......the colors, help to create a feeling of eternity in the passage. This is displayed in the quote “the water rose again and dressed Simon's coarse hair. luminosity” (p. 154). These lights surrounding Simon symbolize his ascension to heaven. Simon's connection to nature is clear throughout this passage. Just as nature gives him a natural halo and Simon's body flies away, the best part of human nature also flies away symbolically.
