Dabke is basically a Middle Eastern dance and is commonly considered an Arabic dance. It is assumed that this type of dance was mainly performed by the inhabitants of the mountains located near the Mediterranean coast and the Tigris (World Lebanese Cultural Union, online). Currently, it is practiced in many Arab countries and commonly pronounced as dabke with “dabka”, “dabki”, “dabkeh”, “debke”, “debkah”, “debki” in other regions and cultures (Kaschl, 2003 ). . Among Arab countries, it is mainly played in Palestine and Lebanon. In these countries, Dabke is usually performed during joyful ceremonies, happy moments, weddings and celebrations. In the Western world, Dabke is called “line dancing”. In this article, I will discuss “Dabke” – the Palestinian folk dance. We will discover its history and what makes it important and unique. We will focus on the locations where it is usually performed and the performers, the costumes worn by the performers, the symbolism of the movements, and the music and songs played during its performance.
