Constituting the world's two largest religions, Christianity and Islam, both view marriage as an important part of the life journey. Thus, the idea that sacred marriage rituals, in both Christianity and Islam, are rich in symbolism and ceremony and are rooted in religious and cultural traditions, can be explored. However, the wedding ritual differentiates Christianity from Islam because Christianity is based on deep symbolic meaning and religious tradition unlike the culturally rich wedding ceremony found in Islam. This can be further explored through an in-depth analysis of the ceremony, symbols, religious and cultural traditions involved in the wedding ritual. Although there is not much commonality to be found between the wedding ceremonies of Islam and Christianity, when examined closely, it is notable that each allows the spouses to connect to their God. In Christianity, it is believed that by holding the ceremony in a church, the couple can get closer to their god. This then allows the couple to link their marriage to that of Jesus' relationship with humankind. The same can be said for the Islamic wedding ceremony, during which the bride and groom proclaim their devotion to their lord, Allah. Although both ceremonies are based on bringing together two people, two families into one, the ceremonies are completely different. In Christianity, the wedding ritual is seen as a celebration of love, while in Islam, marriage is seen more as a contract between the couple. This is due to the Islamic idea that marriage is not based on love, but that love arises from marriage. The wedding ritual, in accordance with Islam and Christianity, is an important step in a person's religious journey. Through detailed research, it is understandable that Islam is firmly rooted in a culturally rich wedding ritual compared to the symbolic and religious wedding ceremony found in Christianity. This leads to the belief that the marriage ritual in Christianity and Islam differs in the areas of ceremony, symbolism, and religious and cultural traditions; clarifying that the sacred marriage rituals in Christianity and Islam are not filled with rich symbolism, ceremonies and are not rooted in religious and cultural traditions.
