In 1837, Ralph Waldo Emerson, in his address to the scholars of Phi Beta Kappa in Cambridge, Massachusetts, declared the need for Americans to preserve their own culture. through literature. According to him, American literature was mainly influenced by Europeans, which caused Americans to forget their own form of literature. He said European literature encouraged scholars to memorize the writings of other writers and did not help them learn anything new. He said it was the negative impact of books on academics. He explained that writers can take their ideas from nature and write about it as they see fit and that their actions are equally important in the development of the new form of literature in America. An American scholar therefore relates to the principles of freedom and independence which directly translate into creativity, maintaining self-confidence, practicality, courage and the interdependence of society. Freedom and independence are a start for creativity where the scholar will be able to do whatever he wants. it thinks. American literature has changed since then, and many would refer to his speech as an intellectual declaration of independence, as did the Boston writers of his day.
