  • Essay / A reflection on my volunteering experience

Over the past two years, my participation in the annual Ramadan fundraiser with Islamic Relief has not only been a volunteering experience, but also a profound reflection on the experience volunteering. This organization dedicates its efforts to supporting marginalized and vulnerable people, giving them a voice and addressing the root causes of poverty, among other critical issues. Throughout this period, I engaged in numerous activities aimed at raising funds essential to achieving the organization's objectives. Throughout my volunteer experience, I helped set up booths with those who had no one to help them, participated in nonprofit auctions to raise donations, and played a role in a fashion show to entertain the audience during the fundraiser. In addition to this, I had also dedicated my free time to distribute brochures with information aimed at spreading awareness about the organization and providing needed help to solve problems around the world. In addition, I contributed to the creation of food rations for the most disadvantaged. Say no to plagiarism. Get a custom essay on “Why Violent Video Games Should Not Be Banned”? My involvement was optional, as I voluntarily invested my time during busy school terms or during vacations to participate in the organization. Having the opportunity to volunteer was an extremely rewarding experience. By exposing myself to an environment dependent on communication and listening, I strengthened these skills and developed additional personal and professional skills. These include decision-making in a pressure situation, problem-solving when choosing the location of materials (when constructing stands), and leadership when a member of the organization me delegates a task to accomplish (preparing snacks for food rations). . I have expanded my knowledge and developed greater empathy for others, interacting with people living in poverty and with staff who help me bring about change. I learned to give back to the community at large by listening to the life experiences of members. By getting involved with Islamic Relief, I have developed valuable knowledge and experience that will help me at school, university and in my daily life. As I have met many different people throughout my volunteer experience, I have formed valuable friendships with those who say I made them feel accepted and welcomed because of the way with which I introduced myself and treated myself. Overall, it has encouraged me to do more good, because knowing that I can have a positive effect on someone's life is rewarding and deeply inspiring. Keep in mind: this is just a sample.
