  • Essay / Target and Biggest Customer Data Breaches

I found three different e-commerce companies that recently faced a consumer privacy data breach. Target one of the most well-known breaches that affected nearly 40 million people, Evernote Corp., an online note-taking service, and LivingSocial, a company that offers gift certificates that customers can use in different cities of the world. In this article, I will discuss what happened and how each company handled the different situations they encountered. The breach involved everything from customers' names, their emails, as well as credit card information, including CVV codes on the back of their cards. The breach occurred during the Thanksgiving holiday season, including Black Friday, one of the most notorious shopping holidays of the year. (Jamieson & Erin, 2013) According to an article published on the Forbes website, “the company has moved relatively slowly in the face of this violation. » (Burg, 2014) Target was slow to respond to the situation, which made people guess what Target's priorities were in this incident. This shows that they were more concerned about their image than letting customers know right away. “Customer service lines for the company's own Target Redcard credit cards were gridlocked.” (Burg, 2014) This means they were not speaking to the customer in the evening... middle of paper ......-million-passwords-reset/Jamieson, A., & Erin, M.
