    A Student's View of Paulo Freire's "Pedagogy of the Oppressed"Freire was one of the most influential educational thinkers most radical and insistent of his time. He proposed his own educational theory for society. His argument was for an education system focused on creative learning and freedom. Freire's method was known as the concept of "problem posing." This would allow students and teachers to communicate through dialogue while both being equally responsible for the learning process. Freire's assessment of education did not support a system that mechanically deposited and reproduced pre-selected information without communication or dialogue on the part of the student. He feared that it would rule and oppress society. This method was known as the “banking” concept. I am of two minds about Freire's assertion that the problem-posing concept is the most effective. On the one hand, I agree that the concept of problem posing is often effective in providing creative freedom in certain subjects such as art and creative writing. On the other hand, the concept of banking is a necessary evil as it lays the foundation for education in subjects such as English, science and mathematics. In the concept of problem posing, the teacher and students work together through communication. The teacher is no longer content to teach and the students are no longer content to listen. They both interact and are able to teach and learn from each other. With this method, students are allowed to share their own ideas and freedom of expression. When a student expresses their thoughts with others, they are challenged and become more aware of their own reality, enabling transformation into a world of freedom and not domination. Jone Lewis quotes Freire who said: “Education either works on paper or is in the process of being shaped. The student must be able to be creative and see the world freely as an evolving reality. Freire also asserts that oppressive classes can resist any class change. He emphasizes that the banking concept of education is a plug-and-play approach. A student is an object that must be filled with pre-selected information. According to him, this approach minimized the creativity of the student, thus making him adaptable and more manageable in society. My feelings on these issues are really mixed. I believe that a student should be able to do more than reproduce pre-selected information while learning. On the other hand, I think it's important to learn the basic facts first. I agree that the problem posing concept is effective in some subjects, but I think other educational subjects are better served with the banking concept..
