  • Essay / Journalism - 2248

Journalism has become a profession that brings enormous personal rewards. Indeed, it is difficult, challenging (e.g. physically, emotionally, ethically, politically), but again, it is fun. Journalism requires mastery of a wide range of knowledge and skills (Hicks: 2008; Brighton: 2007; Randall: 2007). The task of this essay is to identify the primary sources and methods I used to gather information for my 332MC News and Features (aka. 332MC), as well as to comment on what I learned while working individually and collectively in team in the different project tasks through this module. A critical discussion of various journalistic issues, such as news values, objectivity, sources, identifying a readership, interview techniques and news gathering will be included (Machin: 2006: Alan: 2005). In order to develop my theoretical skills and knowledge developed through my practice during the first and second years of this course, this year I tried to develop my awareness of the concept of research and presentation of current affairs articles and report in printed form. As McQuail says, "journalism is not produced in a vacuum" (in an analogy borrowed from Harcup: 2004), but a product developed within a series of structural factors and influences, as well as constraints legal and market forces (Allan: 2005; Shoemaker: 2006). ; Machin: 2006).To begin with, one of the first and most important things I improved this year was the quality of research and the use of primary sources as the basis of my articles. People, places or organizations constitute the most vital part of journalistic practice (Machin: 2006; Brighton: 2007). Tony Harcup suggests that sources are the source of “potential news” (Harcup: 2004: 44). "Information is what an authority is... middle of paper... finding sources of information could also be charities, community groups, regulatory bodies, pubs, billboards billboards, press releases, hospitals, municipal services, etc. Information is everywhere, all journalists have to do is go find it and transform it into their own “masterpiece”. » (Harcup: 2004; Hicks: 2008; Shoemaker: 2006; Cole: 2010). To me, journalism seems to be one of the most exciting jobs in the world. When you work as a journalist, you have the chance to meet people. powerful, interesting and inspiring people, heroes, villains and celebrities Journalists indeed inform society about themselves and are concerned with “making public what would otherwise be private” (Harcup: 2004: 2). gives the chance to be one of the first to know something and tell the world, as well as the opportunity to indulge your passion for writing, travel and knowledge..
