  • Essay / Global Warming - 1376

Global warming is the increase in the temperature of the Earth's atmosphere. It's cold outside and most of us can only think about warmer climes and our next vacation. But could your next tropical holiday be here in Britain? As stupid as it sounds, studies show that over the last decade our climate has warmed, it's hard to believe after these two weeks of big freeze. Almost all scientists support the fact that over the past thirty to forty years the Earth has warmed, but there is no debate about the legitimate reasons. Over these years, there have been conflicting documentations based on the issues of global warming and climate change, their effects and their causes. Only two of these contradictory debates are examined here. The first article is a British Council article on airplanes and global warming. Mike Rayner is the author who wrote this article about air travel and co2 emissions affecting the Earth. Article two comes from Times Online written by deputy travel editor Jane Knight. His main argument and defense is that you don't have to give up fun in the sun to fight climate change. These two articles have similar audiences that they attempt to address, with both highlighting concerns about global warming. However, the Times Online article does not suggest that these are just the faults of planes and air travel, as interpreted in the British Council article. The British Council article initially used an image presentation device, which attracts attention first, as well as a small subtitle. introduction of the subject, followed by the moving writing of a poem about flying home, thus using the audience's imagination, in a light-hearted way, thinking of someone desperate to find...... middle of paper...... Manufacturers are making more efficient engines and looking for alternative fuels. These concerns have been noted at different times and can now be reflected in more recent statistics. When I think of vacations, my first thoughts turn to the flight, passport ready, baggage allowance, bikinis, factor 50 and a good novel, but how many of us consider the unfortunate effects of our well-deserved getaway on the environment? Maybe it's time to see green and as I said before I haven't thought about the major effects on earth while flying at 30,000 feet, myself with you the imaginable traveler might start to think to the future of our growing global climate, not by jeopardizing our vacations or even giving them up, but by examining our options. Climate change will never be completely solved, but a few changes can make a big difference.
