A transactional leader aims to generate desired performance from the team by directly motivating them. Employees are rewarded for expected behavior and punished when they deviate from their roles and policies. The relationship between employee and leader is transactional. By rewarding employees, an organization is able to achieve quality goals, and those who fail to meet standards are punished (Laohavichien, Fredendall, and Cantrell).
