    What is your favorite song? Sweater weather? Counting the stars? What about the Royals? Although it has always had a place in the cultures and hearts of humanity, music has not always been as bold, flashy and important as it is today; it took time to gradually evolve into what we consider "popular," and many believe that one New York street was the beginning of such a great American evolution. Tin Pan Alley, one street among hundreds and a tragically neglected piece of American history; dating from the late 1880s until World War II, Tin Pan Alley played a vital role in people's lives and attitudes throughout the early 20th century. Constructed between approximately 1852 and 1853, the buildings that still stand today along 28th Street in New York City are home to incredible American history (A Brief-ish History of Tin Pan Alley). The first music publishers, believed to be M. Witmark and Sons, "settled" after a move from 14th Street to 49-51 West 28th Street in 1893 (A Brief History of Tin Pan Alley), becoming thus the first of them. what would become a "...revolving door of musicians, writers, song sellers, and Broadway and vaudeville performers" (The Daily Guru 2013). The name "Tin Pan Alley" is believed to date back to the author of a newspaper article, named Monroe Rosenfield, who compared the sound of all the cheap pianos being played together to the sound of hundreds of people banging iron pots and pans together -white As Broadway and vaudeville became more popular than minstrel shows, the writers and producers of Tin.
