Observation of a Certified Athletic TrainerFor this project, the certified athletic trainer I shadowed for almost eight hours in a single day is Candace O'Bryan, currently athletic trainer at Archbishop Hoban High. School in Akron. Candace has worked at Hoban and is now entering her third year of high school. She works there alone as a coach, but works alongside a team doctor who is there at every game and the other neurosurgeon, but who is just a parent helping her. Candace works at a clinic in downtown Akron, next to the Spaghetti Warehouse. She only works at the clinic in the off-season, which is summer for her since school is out. The reason is that during school days, normally when you work at the clinic, she teaches Hoban. Candace is also a health teacher at the high school for some classes in the morning. In total, she works over fifty hours a week, which does not include out-of-state tournaments. Since she has a contract to work in Hoban through the clinic, she only has to follow certain things. For example, it covers all home sports matches. But for football and baseball, she accompanies them during the away games they organize. This is exactly how the contract was made when he was hired. To get to where she is so far, Candace attended Kent State University where she underwent athletic training. Just recently, after completing her studies and earning her certification, she earned a master's degree and a second major in teaching, which gave her the chance to teach while she is in Hoban. Candace doesn't arrive at school until around 9:30 a.m. on weekdays and teaches during morning school hours. To help her during game coverage, Candace has three to four student coaches from the high school assisting her. They usually get together after school and, if the football team is playing that day, they eat with the football players in the lunchroom. Shortly after eating, they gather everything she needs and head to the field on the other side of the school. highway.
