May he place his faith in the judgment of the Lord, whom death takes! »439-441 Even though Beowulf has a good chance of falling at the hands of the powerful demon, he chooses to be brave and fair by not using weapons. By doing this he makes it an even fight. Beowulf places his wyrd in the hands of the Lord, meaning that whatever events happened, they were meant to happen. Beowulf ends up defying all odds and defeating the terrifying Grendel. The force of thirty men helped Beowulf tear off Grendel's arm, and later it was discovered that Grendel had bled to death in his bed. Keeping his promise, Beowulf uses only his hands and his strength. Without a doubt, a very courageous act. Beowulf liberates a kingdom he does not belong to, but feels it is his duty because he is a loyal man. We do not know if the hands of the Lord played a role in the success of this heroic act, but we do know that Beowulf's heroic attributes certainly did. Beowulf is certainly a hero either
