    François-Marie Arouet, better known as Voltaire, was born on the 21st of November in the year 1694 in Paris, France. He was the son of François Arouet and Marie Marguerite Daumand and the youngest of a family of five children. At the age of seven, his mother Marie Marguerite Daumand died and left him to become closer to his godfather, a free thinker, from the upper bourgeoisie. Thanks to his godfather's ability to support him economically, Voltaire was able to receive a good education. In 1704 he was sent to the Collège Louis-le-Grand and studied there for a total of seven years. At school he was very gifted in poetry and showed a growing love for theater and literature. Passionate about literature, he decided to become a writer. Despite Voltaire's passion, his father wanted him to become a notary. Voltaire continued his writing career behind his father's back.
