  • Essay / Leadership Philosophy Paper - 986

Leadership is being able to lead or guide other people either through your own actions or by actually leading them in the right direction (Acumen). Inspiration to become a leader can come from many different areas, such as your family, friends, peers, or even teachers. My inspiration didn't really occur to me until I started attending college in August 2013. In fact, I had never even thought about how to be a leader until be in Ms. Moore’s Perspectives class. I now have a desire to be a great leader, and the inspiration comes from Mrs. Moore and my family. I'm the first in my family to attend college, so I've already started guiding my siblings in the right direction. Being a leader means inspiring others to pursue their dreams and aspirations and helping them along the path to success. Being a leader has nothing to do with authority or the ability to tell others what and how to do things, it's about having people who look up to you and want to follow your example. As a leader, you must be in tune with your talents, strengths and weaknesses. Personally, I feel like I have many skills and talents. I am a great friend, I am trustworthy and reliable. I can intervene if necessary and I can take control of certain situations without being asked. I love writing and being able to express my feelings or thoughts through writing and poetry. In addition to my talents and skills, I also have weaknesses. Knowing your weaknesses is, in my opinion, twice as important as knowing your strengths. One of my weaknesses is being motivated. Once I start a task, I will finish it and put 150% effort into it, but actually starting the task is my problem. Another weakness of mine is change. I have a problem with radical changes; I feel comfortable with the familiarity. With every leader there will be strengths and weaknesses and I think that is very important.
