    My favorite part of growing up was playing nightly games with the neighborhood kids and waiting for my dad's loud shout to come in for dinner. Older generations know even more about the familiar experience of playing outside with their peers until the sun goes down. It seems that we cannot prevent the fluorescent youth from staying out late. However, in light of new technological advances in social media, a new place to "relax" has become increasingly popular from the safety of one's computer room. Instead of being yelled at for dirtying their acid-washed jeans outside, today's youth are getting yelled at right from the kitchen for spending too many hours hanging out with their “friends” on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. Researchers agree that social networking on popular websites like Facebook can have both beneficial and harmful effects on adolescents and older adults. However, as younger generations grow up using social networking sites frequently, they suffer from being immersed in the addictive, impersonal and idolatrous nature of online culture, while seniors who have already learned valuable face-to-face skills face to face; seem to be thriving thanks to new social technology. The generations who grew up listening to the new radio and eight-track cartridges know what it means to have real face-to-face interactions with their peers. Today, Millennials and Generation Z are dissociating from their peers as they grow up and integrate into the intimidating virtual world. With puberty being a time of embarrassing changes and exponential growth in intellectual abilities, adolescents are now hampered by the ubiquitous virtual world that Facebook offers, resulting...... middle of paper ......
