  • Essay / Communication theory: self-theory of communication...

Accommodation theory of communicationThis theory highlights the aspirations and consequences of the possible event when two respondents change their communication style. Theorists of this theory dispute that during communication, people adjust or adapt their speaking styles to each other. This is mainly done by convergence or divergence. People from stronger racial or ethnic groups emphasize their identity through divergence. In case of social approval mainly by powerless individuals, convergence is their most adopted mode of communication. I must draw your attention to the fact that this theory does not imply that you are helpless, but rather praise in disguise. Since you and your best friend come from different countries, it just means that you come from a humbler ethnic and racial background. This shouldn't discourage you from parting though, after all best friends don't share everything, but they understand and recognize their differences and that's what makes friendship unique. Having known your best friend's journey, you must understand her every time she makes certain remarks. You should not take her remarks personally since you know her better and know that she only has your best interest at heart (Cicciarelli, 3). Applicable Concepts – Self-Concept Self-concept is an important term used not only in humanism, but also in social psychology to explain how a person perceives or thinks about themselves. It is simply the image we have of ourselves and is influenced by the people we interact with in our lives. It also represents our abilities and uniqueness and is a set of qualities, beliefs, behaviors and nature of an individual. Self-concept in...... middle of article ......nPerception refers to a person's sensory experience of the environment around them and involves environmental stimuli and response to stimuli. Perception is classified into three components. The first element is the perceiver, a person who recognizes something and seeks to understand it; based on emotions, experience or motivation. Second, the target, which is the individual being judged or perceived. Finally, the situation, different situations multiply the information on the target. As friends, you should not react quickly to surrounding stimuli, but first try to understand and analyze what could have been the cause of such stimuli. By responding to stimuli involving your relationship, your friendship may be restored or completely ruined. It is therefore important to understand the situation carefully before taking action. Conclusion
