  • Essay / Harassment and Stalkers - 1040

Harassment can be described when a person becomes obsessed with another person. The harasser could be a former colleague, a neighbor or a stranger. Eight traits can help identify a stalker. There are many reasons why someone might become a stalker, two of the main ones being that a stalker wants to improve their status or because they have a mental disorder. “Bullies often suffer from low self-esteem and feel that they must have a relationship with a victim in order to have some self-esteem” (Snow 25). All but the vast majority of stalkers are not solitary people, who generally keep to themselves and do not socialize. In a normal society, people do not get involved with other people isolated from the rest of the world. This lack of self-esteem and the belief that no one cares what stalkers do is why they sometimes feel a "lack of embarrassment" (Snow 24) about the things they do to get information. on the victims. Bullies are so in their own world. they “do not feel embarrassed” (24) because they know that the actions they perform will eventually lead them to the victims. “Normal individuals would be extremely embarrassed to be caught following other people, rummaging through their trash, leaving obscene notes, and other inappropriate behavior”(24). Bullies have their own rules; they don't care about society's rules, so they do what seems right in their world. Stalkers feel no remorse if they are caught sending strange gifts to their victims. Some stalkers have been caught sending “rabbit droppings or vials from other animals” (83). It's their way of expressing their love to a certain person, but it may seem normal that stalkers don't know how to treat anyone, because usually a stalker doesn't have a relationship or... middle of paper ...something no longer exists. (73) This was a quote from actress Rebecca Schaeffer's stalker, he said this after seeing her in a movie with another co-star, but he was obsessed and got angry when he saw her. saw her with another man. His idea was also that it was the actress who had the wrong idea, that she loved him but that it was he who made her understand that she loved him. Stalkers have such an “obsessive personality” (Neige 23) that it is difficult for them to understand the rejection of their victims. To become a stalker, there must first be an obsession. Once stalkers find a victim, they will go to great lengths to get that person closer to them. “There are individuals who become obsessed or obsessed with a person with whom they have had no intimate or close relationship. The victim can be a friend or someone you met only once or even a stranger”(20)
