Ripple Effect Argument EssayStacey Haney is a mother of two from Washington County, Pennsylvania. Stacey and her family lived near a drilling site by a gas company. The company promised the family that there would be absolutely no problems with public water. However, problems became apparent when Stacey's dog and pregnant goat died from arsenic poisoning. Soon, Stacey's horses became ill, and unfortunately, her children and Stacy became ill as well. The family suffered from a series of stomach illnesses, liver and kidney pain, ulcers, etc. Her children became so ill that they were unable to go to school for almost two years. Doctors were able to detect arsenic poisoning in each member of the family following the consumption of water. In order to rid themselves of their illnesses, the family was forced to survive on bottled water and eventually moved to avoid further damage ("The Human Story"). Stacy and her family were victims of water contamination. If better regulations had been enforced on drilling by the gas company, perhaps Stacey's family would still have their pets and their home. Water contamination is a problem that affects people's physical and emotional lives. Contamination of public water can occur when water is not properly filtered, pipes are not properly maintained, raw sewage flows into the water system, etc. Who is responsible for managing all of this to prevent this from happening? The Environmental Protection Agency! The EPA is blamed for all water contamination problems in the United States and clearly they are not doing an effective job. With this in mind, the EPA must make public water safer for drinking, to prevent health risks from water contamination. Internet. May 20, 2014. “EPA.” About. Np, and Web.
