The title of this photo book is aptly named Humans Of New York, it was the first thing that came to the editor's mind after first compiling his images [Stanton, 2013: p2], which is also often referred to as the acronym HONY. . This piece was photographed entirely by a single man named Brandon Stanton who drove hundreds of miles around New York every day to bump into all these people to photograph and ask them questions like what is the saddest thing ever never arrived. in these personal life subjects [Bosman, 2013: Online]. This photo book is made up of 400 color images of New Yorkers at their best and worst [New York Times, 2013: online]. The genre of this photo book is more of a fusion between a documentary style and spontaneous photography in which the photographer displays a deep emotional connection with his subjects. While many photographers tend to focus on a specific idea like a depraved area, the homeless or perhaps the minorities in an area. Stanton reflects on these areas, but he addresses a much broader spectrum, interacting with his subjects and portraying a more dynamic and optimistic glimpse of the people of New York. This photo book sold more than 145,000 copies worldwide within a month of its publication.
