  • Essay / Carbon emission harms the environment - 1594

Carbon emissions have become a problem for the environment by changing the temperature and depleting the ozone layer. Technology has made water and other essential resources easily accessible to people who can use them outside and inside the home. Humans have increased their use of water for irrigation and recreation, thereby reducing water availability, while emitting carbon linked to water use. The amount of water used today puts pressure on the water supply system. Looking at Figure 1, most students use enough water to release more than 0.40 kg of 〖CO〗_2 per shower. The data I recorded is on the high end of the spectrum for the class. However, this information only shows the 〖CO〗_2 released for each shower, interpreting the tiny values, enlarging the values could lead to a larger impact. If the data were expanded to include all of America, or the entire world, and everyone took showers every day exceeding 0.40 kg of 〖CO〗_2 per shower, the values would be astronomical and would have a big impact. An increase in 〖CO〗_2 levels potentially leads to an increase in temperature with a cascade of events, such as melting mountains and glaciers, natural disasters and damage to natural systems. The quantity of 〖CO〗_2 emitted has an effect that does not only impact one aspect of the environment, it affects several. The temperature of the atmosphere changes the temperature of the water, causing a change in the habitat of thousands of fish. The biodiversity of rivers, oceans and lakes is decreasing because species must modify their environment, but if they cannot, they will no longer survive. Water depletion is crucial because it is a necessary resource for survival. Fresh water makes up about 2.5% of the Earth, mostly hidden underground or as a glaze...... middle of paper......(Figure 7). In this case, it could mean that my refrigerator is not as efficient as other refrigerators. But, as electricity graphs show, people use electricity for many appliances and electronic devices, not only out of necessity but also for pleasure. Thinking about electricity use in a broader perspective, thousands of people use electronic devices throughout the day that consume energy and emit carbon emissions. Humans face a tradeoff, they may need food, energy to power their electronics and water, but they also cause damage. As this data sample shows, people tend to spend resources without giving back to the environment. Energy is running out, resources are running out, and the human population continues to grow. For humans to maintain such a way of life, a new way of achieving sustainability will need to be formulated..
