  • Essay / Inhuman Acts at Night by Elie Wiesel - 710

According to the definition, inhuman is described as an individual without compassion for misery or suffering. The novel Night by author Elie Wiesel, illustrates certain aspects of inhumanity throughout the book. It is evident in the novel that when one is given full power to act without restraint, the person in power becomes inhumane. There are many examples of inhumanity in this novel. For example: “I will never forget that smoke. I will never forget the little faces of the children, whose bodies I saw transformed into crowns of smoke under a silent blue sky. Through this quote, Elie explains his first night at the camp and what he saw will stay with him forever - unforgettable. In my opinion, the section of the novel where the Germans throw the babies into the fireplace is very inhumane. An individual must have no sympathy or feelings to take such a disturbing action. On top of that, “we stayed there for more than half an hour, struggling between life and death, dying in slow agony before our eyes. And we had to face it. He was still alive when I walked past him. . His tongue was still red, his eyes were not yet glassy. This is also a very inhumane example since the weight of the child was not enough to break his neck when he was hanged and so he slowly dies a painful death while all the Jews walk alongside him , being forced to observe cruelty. What is exposed throughout the novel was inhumanity. The quote "Never will I forget that smoke. Never will I forget the little faces of the children, whose bodies I saw transformed into crowns of smoke under a silent blue sky." This quote shows how a powerful authority had all the control to carry out disturbing actions and no common subject...... middle of paper ...... aware of the power of the German. In conclusion, in the novel Night, the Germans had so much strength and power that no minority (Jewish individuals) could stop them. As a result, the Germans took advantage of the power they had and killed many Jews in very unpleasant ways, thus illustrating inhumanity. The Germans had no feeling or sympathy for their actions and through the two quotes provided it is evident that Jewish society lived in fear and helplessness. Elie will never forget what he saw the first night he was at camp and it was the buildup of fear. Additionally, the way the Germans executed the child shows that they are heartless in making innocent people suffer. These examples were very brutal and inhumane ways of treating the Jews, as a result the Germans took bad advantage of their power, abused it by doing what they wanted..
