    Birth of ArthurAfter Arthur's father, King Uther, avenged the assassination of his brother, Aurelius Ambrosius, he held a victory party in London. Gorlois, Duke of Cornwall, joined the celebration and brought his wife Igraine, with whom Uther instantly fell in love. Uther, out of lust, threatened to make war on Gorlois for his wife. Gorlois returned to Cornwall to reinforce the defence, leaving his wife at Tintagel Castle, as the defense was strong. Uther then killed him. In the legends, it is said that Uther used Merlin's magic to transform his appearance into that of Gorlois and traveled to Tintagel. Uther then convinced people that he, or Gorlois, was still alive. Igraine, believing Uther to be her husband, slept with him and soon Arthur was conceived. Uther, still transfigured into Gorlois, told his people to surrender to themselves, well, to Uther in fact. After this, Uther returned home and later married Igraine, who later gave birth to Arthur. Important Events After Arthur was born, he was soon given to Sir Ector to care for. He lived there thinking that Ector was his real father, Ector's son, Kay was his real brother and Sir Ector's wife was his real mother. About fifteen years after Arthur's birth, King Uther died from the poison of Colgrim, who was the king of the Saxons. in Germany; they had been at war. Merlin, the legendary sorcerer who had been Uther's advisor, was tasked with finding a new king. Wishing it to be Arthur, he plunged a sword into a stone and enchanted it so that only the next king of England could remove it and placed the stone in front of the church in London so that all could try to remove the sword stone.
