    Following Iraq's invasion of Kuwait on August 2, 1990, Operation Desert Shield was implemented by the United States on the 7 august. In an attempt to deter Iraq from advancing further into the country, the United States began deploying troops, equipment and other supplies needed to maintain a wartime army. By moving assets by air and sea, the presence of US armed forces was revealed in the region and assets were deployed to Saudi Arabia's allied countries. We later mobilized to launch Operation Desert Storm on January 17, 1991 at 3 a.m. Arabian time when the first tanks crossed the region. on the Saudi border, this conflict will continue until the official ceasefire comes into effect on April 11 of the same year (Operation). During the 10 months of the First Persian Gulf War, the Military Sealift Command conducted the largest modern sealift operation of war materiel in the United States military. The United States' ability to mobilize and sustain itself during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm reflects U.S. national security objectives of forward power projection, maritime supremacy, and planning. effectiveness of their maritime transport strategy. In past cases, the ability to control forces outside territorial boundaries has been difficult and can still sometimes be a challenge. Getting information to where it is needed, when it is needed, was also an equally problematic issue in the 1990s, but with the advent of technologies such as satellite telephone and the global positioning system, directing the army outside the United States had become easier than ever. Forward power projection is the control of military forces outside one's territory, and during Operation Desert Shield and Storm this was effectively displayed...... middle of paper ..... .capable of moving a large amount of equipment from The States to the Persian Gulf. While achieving the Navy's objectives of forward power projection, remote command, maritime supremacy, control of international shipping lanes and strategic sealift, movement of war materiel and personnel where it's needed over the ocean when it's needed.
