    Across Europe, between 1400 and 1650, women were present in all the major styles of the time. They worked alongside great artists and developed new techniques and styles. Women also played a very important role during the Renaissance. Although less well documented than their male counterparts, women worked alongside other great masters, were just as innovative and played a key role in the development of new techniques. Artemisia Gentileschi (1593 – 1652), daughter of a well-known Roman artist, was one of the first women to be recognized in her time for her work. She was known to be a genius in the art world. But because she demonstrated a talent considered reserved for men, she was frowned upon. However, by the age of seventeen, she had created one of her best works. One of his most famous paintings was his breathtaking rendition of Susanna and the Elders. It was all because of his father. He was an artist himself and he had trained and introduced her to active artists in Rome, including Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio. 1. At a time when women artists were limited to painting portraits, she was the first to paint large historical and religious scenes. After his death, people seemed to forget him. His works of art were often confused with those of his fathers. Artemisia art historian Mary D. Garrard notes that Artemisia "suffered scientific neglect unthinkable for an artist of his caliber." Renewed and long-awaited interest in Artemisia has recently helped to recognize her as a talented Renaissance painter and one of the world's greatest female artists. In 1553, his health deteriorated. She caught a high fever that killed her within days. The same year, his sister published her Rime. This was not very successful in its century. It took two centuries before it was published again. She is today considered one of the greatest Italian poets. The Rime de Stampa is one of Canzonieri's greatest collections in Italian literature.
