My Religion - Original WritingFor my original writing, I decided to write about a period in my life where I had to make a difficult decision that would have had far-reaching consequences for Me. Mid-September 1996 first day of high school, like every new student, I was extremely nervous because it was the first time I went to a place where I didn't know anyone. When I entered the main entrance, there was chaos as all the new students demanded to enter the meeting room to be assigned to form groups. Once assigned to my group, I immediately realized that there were no Muslims in my class and that most, if not all, were Christians. During the first months of high school, I had a lot of difficulty interacting with other students because they already knew each other. but once I felt comfortable, I opened up quite easily. If memory serves, we are now somewhere after Christmas and approaching the holy month of Ramadan where all Muslims capable of fasting should participate in a month where we are not allowed to eat or drink during the day. The first few fasts I kept I found it really difficult that other students were teasing me while they were eating their snacks during their break and lunch. One day, while I was sitting in the library at lunchtime, a few Christian friends came over just to see what I was doing. I explained to them that I didn't want to sit in the dineras, the others were eating their food, it just made me hungry. At first, as a joke, one of the guys took out a bag of chips from his jacket and asked me to have some. I told him I was fasting and couldn't eat anything until sunset. He then continued to ask me repeatedly to have some crisp, I just kept responding with the same replay.
