  • Essay / Japan and the Korean War - 2238

1945 marks the end of World War II and the end of Japan's rule in Korea. Korea had been under Japanese rule since the Japan-Korea Annexation Treaty in 1910. During this period, Korea had been brutally treated by Japan. The Korean language was suppressed along with traditional Korean culture. Japan forced Koreans to take Japanese surnames and took many "comfort women", otherwise known as sex slaves, for the Japanese military. As a result, diplomatic relations between Korea and Japan were strained. Japan was determined to forget the past and deny many of the events that happened, while Korea was determined not to move past it. There have been disputes between the two countries over the recognition of comfort women and territories, many of which arose from World War II and before. Although there have been improvements, relations between Japan and Korea are strained, mainly due to Japan's reluctance to remember and apologize for the past and Korea's stubbornness to not not get out of the past. When there was still Japanese imperialism and Korea was a Japanese colony. , Japan imposed many terrible things on Korea. The annexation of Korea, which was completed in 1910, met little response or resistance from the international world and Korea, respectively. Their regime was repressive. Korea became completely dependent on Japan for its economy. Things like ports were designed for military purposes, and although Japan built bridges, dams, and corridors in Korea, their original purpose was to serve the military and make Japan appear powerful. Throughout the period from 1910 to 1945 there were rebellions but they were quickly put down by the Japanese. In 1919 there was a revolt with almost 2 million supporters and in the end thousands of people were killed... middle of paper ......andela once said: “ True reconciliation is not simply about forgetting the past." For Japan to reconcile with South Korea, the Japanese government must fully acknowledge and apologize for its war crimes. Japan is currently suffering from "war fatigue an apology,” wondering why he is continually being asked to repent and apologize for things that happened almost 70 years ago. It’s Korea’s fault, constantly putting pressure on Japan. for him to apologize. They are not willing to move on from the past nor accept that Japan does not apologize. This is understandable since they do not want Japan to make this mistake again. to cover up their mistakes rather than admit them in the past But the fact is that Japan has still not issued a meaningful apology to Korea. Therefore, the Korean people will continue to view Japan in a negative light until repentance occurs..
