  • Essay / Standardized testing, bullying, and a lack of parents...

This semester in Education 101, I learned a lot about different issues that arise in the school environment. All questions are important, but some are much more important than others. One is the standardized test which I can call an unfair test because everyone learns in a different way and understands things differently, this test caters to one learning style. Bullying is another problem that is difficult to resolve and maintain, but it is very serious and occurs daily. Lack of family involvement is the thing that matters the most because if a parent shows no interest in their children's education, the child will not show any interest either. Controversial issues that arise in schools that I consider important are standardized testing, bullying, and lack of family involvement. Standardized tests are aimed at a population of people and a learning style. These tests are supposed to measure whether you are at your academic level, but can be extremely ineffective. I remember taking the SAT and they asked me questions that I didn't know how to do and it was so long that it made me not want to take it. This creates a problem for students because they wonder why take a test, I know I will fail and it takes hours. The success rate is very low. These tests are for people who are tolerant enough to sit for hours and understand the work in a particular way, but not everyone is tolerant enough for that. Just like one of my old teachers said that everyone learns, understands and tolerates a lot of things, but taking a four-hour test with work that you can't understand because you don't have enough time to think about it this particular subject. section is not fair for all students...... middle of paper ...... ng is not a problem at school and try to make sure they get it so that this doesn't happen outside of school. Due to the lack of parental involvement as a teacher, I would make sure that I can get all parents to participate in the student's school life because, whether they like it or not, the involvement of their parents or guardians is what matters most. If I can't do that, I will try to assure my students that they can come to me for help and that if they need help with anything, they can talk to me. I would show my students that I care, but it works best when teachers and parents work as a team. Yes, there are a lot of issues to solve when it comes to educating students and ensuring they receive the best education possible, but as a team of teachers and parents we need to come together and do what is right to protect education and make sure they teach and learn.
