The reason chemistry is so important is because it forms the basis of life, such as humans and other living organisms. Chemistry has been used for thousands of years. The first chemical reaction used in a controlled way was fire: burning wood, boiling water and lighting. . Early societies used fire in their early days for cooking and keeping habitats lit for more advanced activities like pottery making, brick making, and metal smelting. Soon, advances were made to include glass making and metal purification.
