    Many students do not know how to apply rhetoric. Students know how to write to a specific audience and for a specific purpose. Many students only know the audience and the purpose, so they don't apply all the rhetorical steps. Many students don't know rhetoric, so they don't know how to give their writing personality. More simply, they don't know how to give character to their writing. In addition, students do not know how to convince. In other words, students do not provide enough information to convince their audience or reader to agree with the writer. Additionally, students are unaware of their rhetorical choices and context can affect their writing. Therefore, new student writers should gain rhetorical awareness because they will learn ways to use language and rhetoric can help them write a focused essay. Rhetoric is how new student writers use language. According to Sylvia Morales, professor of English and author of “The Rhetorical Situation,” rhetoric is “the art of using language effectively and persuasively” (1). When students are persuasive, they are able to convince their audience and reader. For example, when I want to persuade my audience, I give examples that they can relate to and understand. Most simply, students must provide enough information to convince the reader to agree with their point of view. Additionally, students should be informative when being persuasive. In other words, they provide evidence and support to persuade the public to agree with their views. Additionally, when students use language effectively, they achieve the desired goal. Additionally, students can write targeted articles if they choose a specific audience and purpose. More simply, writing for a specific audience and purpose is easier because students only have to focus on certain people for a certain reason. Additionally, students need to know how similar rhetorical choices and context are because new student writers must make decisions about their writing. Additionally, students must learn to be persuasive and use language effectively. If students learn more about rhetoric, they will continue to write essays that do not convince the audience and reader to agree with their points of view. In other words, if students continue to ignore rhetoric, their writing will not improve. Overall, rhetorical awareness can help new student writers with their writing..
