  • Essay / The Tudors by Michael Hirst and Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel

Loyalty is an f-word that everyone can appreciate. It refers to honesty and loyalty – total and complete dedication to someone or something else. But loyalty means more than just one thing. It can refer to the relationship between relatives, between a king and his court, and between a cardinal and his closest man. In fact, loyalty can be divided into two other words that encompass all parts of it: faithfulness and fidelity. Using examples from Michael Hirst's The Tudors and Hilary Mantel's Wolf Hall, loyalty will be seen with new depth and clarity, and hopefully the f-words can be seen in a new and more positive light. Fidelity, the first part of the loyalty solution, is used in this sense to designate firmness in affection. This means always remaining faithful to a loved one, never weakening in your passion. In the works of Hirst and Mantel, the best way to illustrate loyalty is to say that it is the exact opposite of everything that King Henry VIII does. "In Cold Blood", the first episode of The Tudors, contains a scene where, just after he swears war against the French, Henry "spends the day making love to Lady Blount" (Summary of the episode 1.1). It is worth mentioning that Lady Blount is also married at this time. Not only does Henry cheat on his queen, but he asks one of his ladies-in-waiting to cheat on her husband, destroying the definition of fidelity in every way possible. In Wolf Hall, a conversation between George Cavendish and Thomas Cromwell focuses on the subject of Henry's affair with Mary Boleyn, in which Cromwell asks: "While he was close to Mary, he thought of Sister Anne?" (Coat 73). This very clearly illustrates the king's desire to sleep with both Boleyn sisters, not just the middle of paper from the 1500s? Turns out F-words are more important stuff. of society than anyone would have ever believed. Loyalty and its two parts, faithfulness and faithfulness, are f-words that every person should live by. At their core, they all mean integrity and allegiance, whether it applies to a wife or a husband, a cardinal or a king, a boyfriend or girlfriend, a president or a prime minister . Most importantly, loyalty can be achieved by anyone if they just think and use their f-words often. Works Cited Harper, Douglas. Online etymology dictionary. 2013. Internet.
