The Adventure of Tom SawyerThe Adventure of Tom Sawyer is a novel by Mark Twain published in 1876. Being one of the best-known American writer names in China, Mark Twain is the pseudonym of Samuel Langhorne Clemens (1835-1910), best known for his humorous and satirical writings. The great American humorist and storyteller was born in Florida, Missouri, in 1835 and grew up near a small Mississippi river town, Hannibal, which serves as a model for St. Petersburg, the idyllic city where the story takes place from the adventure of Tom Sawyer. Life in the southern frontier town greatly influences Mark Twain's writing and the story of Tom Sawyer is only a reflection of Mark Twain's childhood as the author tells us in the preface. Tom Sawyer is the main character of Tom Sawyer's adventure, a mischievous, imaginative but intelligent boy who lives with his Aunt Polly in St. Petersburg. He is passionate about adventure and always dreams of living a pirate's life. The first adventure takes place accidentally when Tom and Huckleberry Finn, the town's lazy and free-living drunken son, sneak out to the cemetery at night. There, they witness a murder committed by Injun Joe, who makes Muff Potter his scapegoat. Extremely frightened, the boys run away and swear not to tell about the murder. When Tom, Huck and Joe Harper escape to an island to become pirates, the second adventure begins. The tugs consider the three drowned and hold a funeral for the three during which they appear and surprise everyone. Back in town, Tom rejoices with his lover Becky Thatcher, who breaks up with Tom before his island adventure, taking a class punishment for her. Later, Muff Potter is accused of murder, but Tom stands out and tells the truth out of conscience. Thus, he becomes the hero of the town but Injun Joe runs away. Once again, Tom and Huck venture into a haunted house in search of buried treasure, where they encounter Injun Joe who disguises himself as a deaf and mute Spaniard and digs up the gold without noticing the boys. At an inn in town, Huck traces Injun Joe and stumbles upon Injun Joe's plan to kill the kindly Widow Douglas, who is then saved through the prediction of Huck's evil plan. Meanwhile, Tom and Becky go for a picnic in McDougal's cave where they get lost and Tome sees Injun Joe..
