Pregnancy outcomes are affected by racism and chronic stress due to many life factors such as social and economic factors. Studies have proven that the majority of African American babies are born prematurely and with weight issues compared to white American babies, and it is no coincidence that this race is the most affected by discrimination. Racism could be the answer to this dilemma, as it is a problem that people have faced for decades, which has increased their worries to the point of becoming chronic stress. A century ago, the average American lived only about 48 years, but as living conditions and medical care improved, people began living longer following the mention of “In sickness and in riches” video. Society has improved living conditions, but has still failed to combat racism.
