  • Essay / Climate change adaptation measures in the coastal city...

Even though this study cannot provide an in-depth analysis of each of the adaptation measures and in fact it is not easy to evaluate the performance of current adaptation measures through a theoretical study only, but this study gives a basic indication of the state of the art in climate change adaptation in a coastal city of Semarang. Each adaptation measure has different scales of information and has its own characteristics. This study attempts to simplify the analysis based on the three main criteria in order to evaluate adaptation measures, which are economic, environmental and social and institutional aspects. The analysis of some coastal urban adaptation measures hints at the existing gaps and inadequacies in adaptation efforts by examining some of the different ways in which adaptation strategies are implemented in the coastal zone of Indonesia in the context of the impact of climate change and urban development. criteriaThe main indicators of economic criteria are effectiveness and feasibility. Concerning these indicators, little information can be found among the cases of adaptation measures from the reports or documents. This can be understood because it is a conditional question. However, there are certain adaptation measures which have an indirect explanation. For example, in the case of the adaptation strategy to integrate the climate resilience strategy into the urban planning of Semarang City, the local government has structural and non-structural measures that it will adopt to combat the impact of climate change. In terms of economic efficiency and feasibility, the actual performance of adaptation practices translates into positive results because they are quite stable in the long term. However, feasibility depends...... middle of paper ......implementation of the strategy. To the extent that climate resilience is integrated into urban planning, the adoption of adaptation measures results from a clear consensus and shared awareness among stakeholders. Although it is not clear whether the adaptation measure is reliable with current planning, this measure has increased the capacity of local authorities to integrate climate change into planning at the local level. Although it is difficult to assess the performance of adaptation practices in the case of the coastal city of Semarang due to the different typology as well as geographic, environmental, social, economic and institutional circumstances, but the analysis can be carried out by examining indicative results based on several criteria. The actual performance of adaptation measures in Semarang city can be seen in the table 5.
